Research the exact model
Confirm the full model name, generation, included accessories, normal used price range, and common failure points. Similar-looking instruments and interfaces can have very different features and values.
Ask for the serial number when appropriate, but do not post a seller’s private information publicly. Compare photos with the manufacturer’s specifications and look for altered labels or missing hardware.
Request evidence of current condition
Ask for clear, recent photos from multiple angles and a short video showing the item powering on and performing its main functions. For keyboards, test every key, output, pedal input, knob, and display. For guitars, inspect the neck, frets, electronics, bridge, and tuning stability.

Document the transaction
Save the listing, messages, receipt, tracking information, and photos of the package when it arrives. Inspect shipped equipment promptly and document damage before discarding packaging.
If something feels inconsistent, pause. Another piece of gear will become available. A missed bargain is less expensive than a preventable scam.
